Gemeente Diemen Introduces Blue Zone Parking in Zeezigt Street

The municipal council of Diemen has decided to introduce a blue zone in Zeezigt street and a part of Pampuszigt (Diemen Noord) in response to complaints about high parking pressure in and around Zeezigt. The blue zone is expected to be implemented in Zeezigt before the summer, pending a objections and appeals period and adjustments to the blue zone map.

Reason for Implementation

Research indicates that the parking pressure in Zeezigt is manageable during the day but increases to over 85% in the evenings, necessitating parking regulation. A resident survey conducted in a broader area than Zeezigt showed that less than 50% of residents supported the blue zone. However, a clear majority in the immediate vicinity of Zeezigt favored its implementation, leading to the decision for tailored intervention.

Impacts on Residents

By customizing the solution, the municipality accommodates the wishes of Zeezigt residents, anticipating a decrease in parking pressure on that street. In surrounding areas where support for the blue zone was lower, the municipality refrains from implementing it, sparing residents from the obligation to apply for exemptions.

The municipality is aware that these areas may experience increased parking pressure as a result of the shift from Zeezigt. It commits to monitoring parking pressure in adjacent streets, promptly responding with appropriate measures if necessary.

Future Plans and Public Notice

Wethouder Hans Prins mentioned, 'We are currently using tailored solutions to enable smaller zones. After March 2026, a new parking policy plan will define key aspects such as parking, nuisance, paid options, capacity, and revenue.'

The council's decision will be promptly published on Overheid.nl and in the Diemernieuws municipal page. Residents have a 6-week window from the publication date, starting January 17, 2025, to raise objections or appeals against the decision.
